The Fastest & Greenest Way to Travel to Miami | Virgin Trains USA

Allow me introduce you to my favorite way to travel throughout South Florida. Virgin Trains formerly known as Brightline is a full service high speed passenger train connecting West Palm, Ft. Lauderdale and Miami. Travel times from WPB to Ft. Lauderdale are about 30 minutes and WPB to Miami in a little over an hour.

My favorite part about traveling on the Brightline is the flexibility it offers.

I have traveled via Brightline many times and can attest that it is THE best way to get to Ft. Lauderdale and Miami. During college I used to commute between the WPB area to Miami and the drive alone was over 2 hours not including traffic. Being able to get to Miami in a little over an hour and not having to drive is a dream come true. Typically I will travel select because of the complementary amenities but have also traveled in smart and have had great experiences in both. My favorite part about traveling on the Brightline is the flexibility it offers. The trains run throughout the day beginning early in the morning and into later evening depending on the day. I also love that you are able to book a one way trip if you are unsure of when you’d like to return. This makes an evening out much more enjoyable because you are free to return whenever you please.

Future of Train Travel in Florida?

Future connections to Orlando and Walt Disney World are in the works to be completed by 2022, with travel time from Miami to Orlando around 3 hours. Currently the trains travel at 80 mph but new tracks will allow for speeds of 125 mph. Plans are also in place to expand north to Jacksonville and west to Tampa.

Select service includes complimentary food and beverages (yes even alcoholic ones) as well as parking and larger 21 inch seats and private lounge

The trains have diesel-electric engines and are powered by clean biodiesel from FPL which keeps emissions and noise minimal. They are also American made and the first fully ADA-accessible trains in the country. Brightline offers one way and roundtrip services as well as two classes of coaches to choose from, Smart and Select. Smart has lower prices starting around $15 for a one way from WPB to Miami. Smart offers 19 inch seats with food and beverages available for purchase. Select does cost more at around $27 for the same one way to Miami but includes complimentary food and beverages (yes even alcoholic ones) as well as parking and larger 21 inch seats. Select also offers a private lounge with additional complementary soft beverages, beer/wine and snacks while you wait to board your train.

Complementary wifi and power/USB outlets to keep you connected

For those traveling for work or on business the select lounge has business services which include scanners, printers and iPads as well as access to conference rooms. Both classes have complementary wifi and power/USB outlets to keep you connected and charged up during your trip. All three station locations are centrally located and less than 15 minutes away from their respective airports.

The next time you are vacationing or traveling to South Florida I highly recommend taking a trip on the Brightline.  For more information click here
